If you have travelled by Haryana Roadways buses, you would know. Whenever the bus stops, vendors of all hues, hurriedly board the bus and try to sell you whatever it is that they are selling. More often than not they are selling something to eat, like namkeen or sweets. They will try to sell you the stuff they have even when you tell them that you are not hungry. They will make you wiser and advise you that the food items are not to satiate your hunger but to help you ‘pass’ the time. Often, they don’t even call out the food items by its name. Trained vocal cords, in a singular pitch, chirp, “time pass”.
This ‘blog’ is simply that. So those of you who have better use of your time, may kindly skip this. But then again those of you who have a moment to spare may please stop by.
Ibarat – simply put means a ‘composition’.
In the following pages I have put together some compositions expressing my thoughts and some stories that I have collected in the last half a century. Somerset Maugham had said that when a person starts writing, he starts by drawing from his personal experiences. This is a collection of some such experiences. At certain places, where required, the names and the references have been altered to such an extent that the reference to the concerned persons and the places is unidentifiable.
I have been meaning to pen these thoughts down for some time now. I have discussed doing it with my friends and one friend especially – Vasu. I also have to thank Vasu for the encouragement given by him. In July 2017, he found a creative writing course run by a famous writer in South Delhi. To encourage me to enroll in the course, he also enrolled with me, even though he had no desire or requirement to do so. Like so many other things in my life, I did not complete the course but the effort taken by him really touched me. Thank you, Vasu.
A little bit about me. My name is Divjyot Singh. I am a lawyer practising in Delhi since 1995. I live in Gurgaon. Books, motorcycles, plants, cacti (it deserves special mention, even though a plant), dogs and engaging with friends (not necessarily in that order) are some of my other interests. Like everybody, I have a few dislikes – Patriarchy is one of them.
